Carpet and clown biotope tankmates

So I've always wanted a carpet anemone (probably hadoni as they seem to be the most hardy species from what I've read). Never added one to my reefs because of all the stories of them eating other fish in the aquarium.

So I'm going to do a nano cube tank with 2 or 3 perculas or ocillaris.

What other fish would be safe to add?

I love the idea of 2-5 domino damsels but I've read that this only works while they're juveniles and will live under the anemone. Seems like they become aggressive even amongst each other as they reach adulthood and may leave the anemone area completely.

I haven't found any threads or info about how long it takes before this happens. Does it take 6 months? 6 years? Would a solo adult be ok? Would it need a different area of rocks to live in as adult or would the adult still hang by the carpet?



What other fish would be immune to carpet stings that could live somewhat peacefully in a tank like this?

I think with a nano cube I would stick with just a pair of clowns. Anything more your going to have territory and aggression problems in a small tank. A pair of clowns hosted in a anemone definitely won’t let a damsel in there home.

I don’t know of any fish can take a carpet sting other than the ones you mentioned. There are some inverts like sexy shrimp and porcelain crabs are also symbiotic with haddoni anemones

Ok. Yeah I didn't think any other fish would work but was hoping there was something out there I don't know about.

Only clowns it is then. Definitely will get some sexy shrimp and porcelain crabs. Will still be a super cool little tank.

damsels translates to devil fish... atleast it should

What size nano? I wouldn't put clowns or a carpet in anything smaller than a 20g. Also make sure your tank is mature and you have cipro on hand before getting the anemone.

I had several juvenile domino damsels living in an H. Mag. Only one survived, after ~6 months, it’s gotten big (~12cm) and still hosts in the mag just like a clownfish. I haven’t tried dominos in my Haddoni system tho, I just have a pair of Clarkii’s in there. Periclemenes anemoneshrimp are fun. I’ve never tried a porcelain crab, now I’m interested!

recently introduced a domino to my anemone tank...he was the last fish to go in..sought the gig anemone i have in one corner and the resident clowns shooed him away....he is a shy guy in general...they're not ALL bad..

I have dominos and clownfish together in a 40b there’s enough anemones to share lol

Reef builders has a small tank with 2 haddonis and a pair of true percs. Looks pretty cool and simple looking.
