Hello there and thank you to any one willing to help. I have been in the hobby for probably 6+ years and have recently started experimenting with anemones. I picked up a Green carpet anemone from my local fish store and have been having problems with it. Everything in my water has tested clear and should be able to support it. I am running Hydra AI 26s and the only other thing in the tank are my two clown fish. The anemone has been in my aquarium for about three weeks, for whatever reason he will inflate to full size ( about a soft ball) and look amazing for about three hours and then shrink into a little ball and spit out his stomach. The guy at the fish store said they are just moody and do whatever they want. So for about two weeks I let him do his thing and it almost became a schedule when he would expand and shrink. During the morning from about 8am-noon he would be fully extended and then around 1230- 3pm he would shrink, then from 3-8 out again and so on. Then a couple days ago he started to move around the tank and hasn't stopped. I'll attach images below for reference, any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

If I was to guess he doesn’t like the light (too strong or not enough). Or secondly the flow. What are your lighting parameters (par) at the level he is at and the flow like?

If it's deflating regularly like that it very well may need cipro treatment for bacterial infection

Ok so I think I have everything besides the medication and a decent light. my old leds are on my dads aquarium and the only other Leds I have are my current orbit Leds would these provide good enough light ?

Should be fine during treatment period.

Make sure you follow treatment protocol exactly, cipro becomes inert w/ light and should be dosed at lights out/night, and stay on the daily WC's.

Petmountain.com is where I got cipro last w/out needing script, labeled as fish flox.

Time is a factor, so get started asap.

I ordered the medication, but.... tonight he was the largest I’ve ever seen him and then he flattened out and secreted something that almost looked like smoke ?

Is this normal behavior ? hes now climbing the rocks ?

I don't think that is climbing as much as it just detached.
It's not happy, needs treatment, hope meds come quick

How old is the tank? Also you might want to get a par meter to check lighting and then check preferred lighting conditions. Do oyy leave lights on at night?

My aquarium is just under 4 months old, but I assembled it together from my old 55 tank that is still running, used water and 50% of the live rock and my lights are on a ramp down I think It uses like 3 % of the blue spectrum during the night. And no I don’t have a par meter, any brand you would recommend that’s not going to cost to much? I’m living the broke college life lol and currently the anemone is in a quarantine being treated

You can get a lux meter and convert it.

@saltyfilmfolks

What are your parameters ??
Was the nem is healthy shape when u got it?

Yeah I mean I’m definitely not against spending the money to get one that would last because I’m going to be in the hobby for a long time but funds are tight because we just bought a house, but for now I’m still trying to see what settings work for my aquarium, currently running AI hydra 26

Yeah parameters all checked out before I bought it, even had my local fish store check my water and he got the same results, the fish store also told me it was normal that the carpet spits up its stomach like that so I assumed it was normal but he’s doing it way to much
