This is our Nem after a very short acclimation and another 6hrs later in a quarantine tank. When the lights went out 500mg cipro per 10g, everyday 100% WC for 10days under strong lighting. A Par38 full spectrum bulb 18” over tank.
The carpet will see no water for up to a minute each day.

Cipro (the antibiotic of choice) is being used in reef tanks to treat another condition in LPS corals (Brown Jelly Disease).

I do not know the doses required for display vs hospital tank. Somebody will need to come on for that advice.

Until then, can you source Cipro?

You will most likely need to order cipro online, but you you can get setup and even use sulfa meds for now. Most lfs carry sulfaplex

It’s always a good idea to treat carpets. If you are going to keep anemones you should keep some on hand just in case. That being said, the improvement it’s made is encouraging. It actually doesn’t look all that bad for a nem that just shipped. It would be a good idea to put it in a hospital tank so you can do daily water changes even if you can’t get cipro right away. You can use a 5 gallon bucket if you need to, just make sure you securely separate the powerhead and heater from the nem. If you are in the US, you can order cipro here:

I don't think the anemone survived the night. While it still looked kind of healthy this morning, I believe any movement was just from water flow around it. Eventually, I could peek under one side and the flesh had started melting away. The tentacles all looked find, but the underside of the "carpet" looked like it had gone through a shredder.

I moved it to a quarantine tank, where I dosed some Amoxicillin (the only antibiotic I could get my hands on), but now it's just a lump of flesh at the bottom of the tank.

Any suggestions for next time? I am thinking the following:

1. Don't buy online; the 1-2 days of shipping time is just too much for anemones.
2. Don't bother with drip acclimation; get it into a clean tank ASAP.
3. Have antibiotics ready for immediate treatment.

Regarding quarantine... Do anemones require "production" lighting while they are in QT? I typically just use standard freshwater LEDs for lighting my QT tank, since it just houses fish who don't care about PAR values.

Also, when it comes to handling the anemone, to move it into the tank... Should I be lifting it with my hand, "pouring" it into the tank, or lowering it in with some sort of plate or bucket? Is exposure to air an issue or not?

Unless you leave near a LFS or seller that has carpet nems you almost always have to order online. Once the Nem comes in overnight shipping, float it to get it up to temp. They almost always arrive with salinity 31-32ppt

The q tanks should be running the day before at equal temps (76f on the cooler days) with 50% water (5gal) and 32ppt. After the bag is floated and sealed, then the open bag and check temp is around 76f and confirmed salinity then the Nem is placed in the basket by hand in qt, I use a glove. Then move the heaters to 80-81f

What we do is have
Cipro (250mg per 5gal)
2 10g tanks
2 sponge filters or airstone and air pump
2 heaters
1 sm powerhead
1 par38 full spectrum bulb or a led light bar will work set on a timer. Of course if you have a nicer light that will work but it needs to be powerful.
A dollar tree basket with handle and a piece of rock to weigh the basket down
And the ability to have or make 10 days worth of saltwater. Most salts should be mixedfor at least 24hrs heated.
Every day 30mins before lights out the basket is transferred and dosed cipro once the light goes out

I'm a little confused.. Why are you swapping the anemone back and forth between two tanks?

I apologize I forgot to add that the one you transferred gets cleaned and started again.

Im reading @MartinM post seeing if I have been dosing too much cipro in a qt. If so I have never had any Neg effects

So, every day I should be cleaning out the "other" tank... Could I get away with just performing a complete water change daily, in a single tank? Or do I need to be cleaning the tank more thoroughly?

I will admit that I sometimes do that after a few treatments if I’m pressed for time. Working 12-13hr days makes it difficult but is try and start on my first day off

And then I narrow it down to one tank. Unplugging everything but the light and Using a zero pump. First days are nasty with stuff that comes out of it
