carpet anemone tank mates

Mine ate pretty much anything that got close, inverts, fish it didn't care. Only my Clarkii was safe.

If we put a sexy shrimp , are sexy shrimp will fight with peppermint shrimp ? anyone have experienced it ?

I have both types in my tank, and they ignore each other.

Any tanks mates that are better suited for carpet anemone than others? Not counting clownfish. I only have 2 ocellaris clowns, a royal gramma, a yellow tang, and a mandarin. Also have a few hermits and snails, and sea cucumber. The yellow tang is one I hate to lose, but I will probably take the risk. Also I could possibly move something if it is at higher risk.

Not worth it. They’ll even eat your clowns sometimes because the carpet I had ate my clown and stung my purple tang. Never got a carpet again. They also grow very fast and they get huge.

What kind of carpet did you have? If it was a clownfish hosting species, its rare that they eat clownfish unless:

1. The clownfish was sick or already dead
2. The clownfish or anemone was a new introduction

If not fed a lot, they don't grow fast nor will they get too big.

I plumbed a tank to my DT just for anemone. I have 8 skunks hosting my carpet, and plan to add some sexy shrimp soon. I wont be adding any other fish most likely.

Anyone who keeps carpet anemones accepts that they may lose fish to them at some point. I am one of the crazy ones who faces that risk head on. I currently have 4 haddoni in my 75g mixed reef. I also have 3 RBTA's, many corals, 2 Spotcinctus clowns, yellow tang, lawnmower blenny, banded sleeper goby, tobacco bass, melanarus wrasse, and 5 lyretail anthias. So far there have been no casualties, and many of the fish often swim close o or even under the nems.

Has anyone found snails that can survive a carpet anemone tank for long? How about hermit crabs or peppermint shrimp. I'm 0 for 25ish so far, though I gave up years ago with trying...

I have not had any issues with crabs, have lost only a few snails, and my peppermint shrimp just walk on my carpets like I do at home. Doesn't bother them at all.

I keep a lot of carpets, and also have a lot of fishes in my 320. Occasionally I loose a fish to may carpets. Most of the time the fish know well enough to stay away. Started fish and fish being chased are at high risk of getting eaten. You must acclimated the fish in acclimation boxes, so when you release the fish, there will be minimal chasing and no disorientation of the fish being release. You must have night light and you must not do anything that will startle the fish.
Of the fish I lost, about 50% of the time it becasue something I do that cause it. Other time, it becasue there are fighting in the tank and the looser got chased, right into the anemones. Only rarely do I loose fish that have been in the tank for a while.

Mine ate many fish including a memic tang. It actually made me really regret adding the carpet to my tank. Clowns/Anenomes are may favorite part of the hobby but the carpets are pretty serious predators. I had 7 sexy shrimp hosting the carpet and it was a lot of fun to watch. My clowns would never go near it... Unfortunately the carpet decided to attack my mp40 and it didn’t end well. I don’t think I will try one again. Just posting the pic so others no what they are getting into. These things are crazy sticky. If anything touches it there’s no chance.

I hate to say it but Haddoni will eventually eat any fish if it gets the chance. Ridiculous how sticky a healthy one is.

Im trying to get my occellaris to host my carpet anemone. I was going to catch them and tube them directly into the carpet. I guess this may not be a good idea after reading this?

I typically don't recommend the approach because if done to quickly, or the clownfish gets spooked and inadvertently dives into the nem before its ready, it could get stung by the anemone.

this is an old post but my clowns host the carpet i have. No issues whatsoever. I do however want to remove the carpet for the sake of other fish.
