new carpet anemone extruding a white grainy blob

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Can you post a pic? It may just be voiding some waste, or it could be everting it’s mesentery filaments. Do to see any rips or tears on its body column or foot?

how to get approval?

Having problems navigating this forum. Sorry, just very frustrated!
Thank you for responding!
There aren't any rips or abrasions that I can see! It has a nice glowing green ring that shows orange under moonlight.
The white was there for several days and has gone now just after posting. It looks healthy, but acts like the water flow is ruffling it up. Turned the tank off and still doing. First time seeing its underside. Have had it for about 8 days. It moved around some, but has attached to a base rock and stayed for last 4 days. I guess its okay for now! I have a 175 gal. Water peramiters are great except cal is at 380. Ph is consistent 8 to 8.2. Just started testing KH. My tap water is 16, ro 4 and when add salt its 17 KH. Mag is 1500. Was dosing Purple up, but now jus cal. Salinity is 1.025, temp 78-80, phosphates .25, nitrates 10, no ammonia or nitrites. Tank is cycled and has few animals. I had to break it down over 6 months ago because leaking. Had it resealed. Saved live rock and didn't have to cycle again. I had mostly fish, but want to have a reef, so have a few frags. They are new also, but seem to be doing good so far. This is my first time to have a carpet anemane. I was a little over anxious bout it! Will attach a pic tomorrow when lights are back on. Thanks again! Glad to have a group to ask advice.

Your KH is high.

what type of carpet? Watch for deflating and inflating cycles. Is the mouth gaping? Did you recently try feeding it since you acquired which it is spitting out waste?

Almost looks like a mini maxi Stichodactyla tapetum, but I almost see verrucae on the column. Would need better pics to identify.

Jay and Chiz, Sorry my phone is old and pics are not good, Its a mini carpet, ( Stichodactyla tapetum)
It was very active today! Started expelling again. Opening and closing. Its now 1/3 of its original size. Just checked on it again. The moon lighting has been on. Has moved from the rock to the sub straight. Face down. Tried turning and it ended up moving under another rick. I can see it but not as well. Should I turn off the pump for the night? I never was able to feed it. Tried, but it was busy expelling. I know the KH is high, but all other is stabke. I have searched and asked about, but was only told to raise the cal. I can try a different salt mix, but will take a few days. The tap here is very hard. RO=3-4 KH and then salt brings it back to 16. ??? U guess anemone is dying! I didn't think so yesterday, but not looking good today. Corals are happy!

This site is very hard to navigate!
I’m sorry you’re having trouble navigating. Some helpful info so far but #reefsquad is always here to help. Whether it be anemone problems or website problems, help is on the way. @OrionN is great with anemones if you still need any more assistance.

I have to go to my emails to find replies! What do I need to do differently?
Can you see this little bell? When you enter the website, you should see a number next to it. Click it and you can see the first reply to your thread and also when someone types your name. Like @Lenett

That is a mini-carpet. These guys are extremely hardy. How long have you had him? If he continue to deflates like that I would take him out to a QT and treat him with antibiotic. Direction how to treat anemones with antibiotic is I. A sticky thread in this forum.

At the moment those pictures were taken the mouth is inverted which is not a good sign. Not if it’s been 8 days. Did you just feet it recently? I would not recommend it while it looks like that.

The mouth should go back in and it should be nice and tight. The anemone should stop moving around when it’s found a place it’s happy in.

if it starts to deflate and inflate, then you need to do treatment. I would suggest that you checkout the thread mentioned above for more info. You can post daily pictures and we can help you out.

Sorry busy w dogs and vet until now. 11 days. Do you mean the white is his mouth? Whatever it is, the first time it was expelled and I can see it laying on rock. Clearly didn't go back inside. Looks kind of like a slugs head and body. What he was expelling yesterday looked the same, but he was deflating. Seems to be calmer but small today. My cal is still dropping even though dosing. 340 last night. He is under and attached to side of a base rock. I might not be able to get him safely, but will try. What ever is affecting him isn't an issue for other inhabitants. My frags, starfish, urchans, shrimp and fish are doing well. Tiny o clowns eating 3-4 times a day Except my large cinnamon clown is jumping at his own shadow. A male that made it through the tank breakdown but lost his partner. He also bites when he sees skin. Will get meds as rec.
Also there are white cone shaped spongy things growing on rock in 50 gal. Any Idea what it is? Trying to get better pics. Thanks everyone!

No time for a learning curve when animals are in distress. I will work on it! Thanks
