Hey Reefers:

Installing a new CaRx, and there are a few things about setting this up that seem to have some various options. I'm wondering what you all do:
  • Where do you pull the source water from?
  • Where do you pump the effluent to?
  • Where do you have your system pH sensor (not the CaRx pH sensor)?
Thanks in advance for your input!

I pull my water from the return area of my sump I also have my PH probe/sensor here. The effluent drips into the chamber in my sump that my return pump is in.

I pull from return compartment, effluent goes into refugium and pH probe is downstream in the skimmer section.

No baffles in my sump.
Carx sits in sump and drips into a small cylinder with coral bones.
I run manmade media, no ph probe, and no controller.
Simple old school setup.
Tuned right you tanks ph will not be affected.
Just filled it up and cleaned out drip cylinder.
That was 6 months useage in my 1 year old tank. I added 2-1/4 cups.
My reactor is small, Tunze 3171, but it is efficient.

What is your man-made media "recipe"?

LOL.
Its Tunze media which is manmade and only supplies alk and ca.
Its 99% calcium carbonate and is a byproduct of the steel industry.
Interesting. I work in a steel mill, and we have a company that process our slag, or limestone. It is mostly crushed into gravel for roads. I didn’t realize it could be processed as a calcium reactor substrate. It is limestone, so it makes sense that it could.
