Hi All!
I'm a causal hobbyist who is also a gadget geek. My last tank was a Red Sea Nano 20 which served me well for about 4 years. I have a pair of Clowns that have been with me for that whole time and a few other inverts, but I was never able to keep the water quality balanced enough for corals or more. I kinda hated doing tank maintenance because of the filtration being hidden in the back of the tank which was hard to get to. The skimmer was tiny and the "sump" and return pump were impossible to maintain.
Last month I decided to upgrade to a Red Sea Reefer G2 170 with a full sump. I also got a bunch of Apex stuff to help me keep an eye on things and automate as much as I can. I picked up the A3 Pro, a Trident and a DOS (for continuous auto water changes). I also got a Red Sea ReefMat to help with the filtration rather than cleaning filter socks.
The tank is all set up and my prior inhabitants are happy in their new, larger home. The basics are working and the A3 Pro setup is going well, but I am still figuring out how best to calibrate the various sensors and probes, and automate things like the Feed program.
Little things are vexing me like how to best calibrate the LLS' and get a push notifications on my iPhone for when the LLS or optical leak sensors trip, but I'm sure I'll figure that out after a prodigious amount of RTFM'ing ;-)
Anyway, my new journey starts now and I'm excited to make the most of my new system and start spending more time enjoying my tank!
