Catalytic Carbon used on a reef tank?

What are the pros and cons of using catalytic carbon on a reef tank? Are there any other than removing nasty things if the tank is contaminated?

As far as I know, granular activated carbon only has two uses in Reef tank water: binding organics, and if left long enough, as a place for bacteria to grow.

I don’t see a reason to think it does anything special in a Reef tank that gac doesn’t already do.

Hers a description of what is different and what it is used for. I don’t see these being important in an operating reef, but I’ve never seen any sort of data.
