While setting up my new 120g Marineland I noticed this color difference in the silicone seam of the back panel, bottom seam, dead middle.

The bead of silicone running along the bottom dips slightly right where that color change occurs then goes back to parallel.

There is a bead present all the way along. What is that color difference?? Is it a bubble? Catastrophic. Issue or nothing??

That seam doesn't have anything to do with the integrity of the tank. Silicone inbetween the glass panels is what holds, bonds, them together. I wouldn't worry at all about the seam you see there.

Reeling - What is it then? I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just curious what the reason for the difference is? How could it play no role in the leak resistance/stability?

It doesn't really do much. I have a 240g tank, and have absolutely no seam in mine whatsoever. The silicone bonds the panels together, it would not on the other hand hold a tank together if it were done using it that way. They just throw a bead on the inside of the tank, the reason is beyond me as to why. If the bead broke between the glass panels, I assure you it would leak through that lil bead there.

The internal part of the silicone is there as an added buffer of protection to the structural silicone. How much protection that actually accomplishes is beyond me.

The LFS will take the tank back and swap it for a different tank.

They carry AGA/Aqueon and Marineland. Any recommendations??

Peace of Mind take it back and switch it out if your worried.

I am taking it back.. I just don't have much faith in Marineland after this. Any recommendations on brand? I'll post a separate thread

Marineland has had a run of bad tanks it seems. Maybe I have just been aware of the threads lately.
I have always been sold on Aqueon. Still built by hand at the same plant for decades by a lot of the same people. They have a tremendously low turnover of employees. Some are still there from the Oceanic days.
If you can go with an Aqueon I would.

I have several Aqueon tanks and I've been very happy.

I just don't care for the center placed overflow. I much prefer the corner overflow of a Marineland...

Agreed it does make for an aqua scape challenge. But if your choice is a challenge for aqua scape or all your aqua escaping...see what I did there...haha
But seriously not a hard choice

Buy a non-reef ready and add your own custom overflow... much better that way and no overflow taking up the huge corner. I have the Marineland 125G with the dual corners and I truly believe them to be an eyesore... Never again will I buy a reef ready tank with corner overflows.

The Marineland single corner overflow suits me just fine. I actually like it with the placement in the room.

Sounds like you are in the right position in your build to swap it out for a better piece of mind. You will always have that bit of doubt I know I would.

That's right salty. When I go to pick up the new tank I will be inspecting the deal with a magnifying glass haha
