Hey everyone,
I have been trying to catch a small green coris wrasse for a while and my LFS gave me a good idea and I am going to give it a try. The only problem is that I live about and hour or more away from the closest fish store and I would only be able to take it to him tomorrow. How would I be able to keep it alive without having to catch it again? I really wish I had a net breeder at this point :(
I am also trying to catch a brittle star that has gotten a little too big and the same goes for him.
How do you catch a brittle star? He is under a rock and it is one of the base rocks so I can't take it out of the tank:mad:
Any suggestions would be great
Thanks

Would I be able to catch the brittle star if I got a raw piece of shrimp, speared it with a tooth pick, and put it right out of his reach. Then when he came out to get it I could catch him.
Thoughts?

Sorry to seem so urgent but I want to get these guys out of my tank and I don't want to catch them if I don't know how to keep them alive long enough so I can return them tomorrow.
Again, sorry to seem urgent

To keep him alive, you are going to need a holding tank. This tank will need to be cycled, have heat and have gas exchange (either via powerhead or airstone). The tank could be a large bucket (depending on the size of the fish), a plastic tub, or a proper fish tank.

You can cycle a holding tank with the appropriate amount of live rock instantly (that said, the risk is yours, personally I would feed the rock and do some ammonia/nitrite tests for a couple days).

I was thinking more like punching holes in a bottle and leaving it in the tank just to give it some circulation. Is there a more simple way to keep him alive for just one day?

Please:eek:
I need help. I am very desperate, and I will take any ideas

punching holes in a bottle or a clear container with a top is acceptable... you will be fine till tomorrow

If you have a an old plastic fish bag, you could bag him up with it tied off and keep the bag floating in your tank to maintain temp. If it's only 1 day, this method should be sufficient as fish ship daily bagged up with a heat pack.

Thanks, that is what I was planning on doing. I will get a ziplock container or something and just punch a bunch of holes in it. Can I keep the starfish and the fish in the same container. I can put a small rock in the container for the star fish.

depending on their size.. don't crowd them.. More than likely the container is going to float...

Thanks, I will probably put them in 2 separate containers
