I had some issues with my corals the last few months and never even thought it may be the flame angel. Well Sunday while walking by the tank I noticed the flame angel in the area of one of my new acans I got a reef a palooza Saturday. got closer and realized he was nipping/eating it. watched him for awhile cruising the tank nipping at random lps and sps, pretty much the ones who have been receding lately. Had him since December and never noticed anything until now. Well............ he needs to go. tank is 150 5ft long tank and would be near impossible to break down. Wondering if I could get lucky and bring him to the surface for food the scoop up with net????????? I once caught a sailfin tang this way. Would it work again, plan to try this afternoon.

Anyone have luck with traps? Also have heard to turn lights back on after they go out at night and try to catch.

Had the same issue. Went to the local sporting goods store in the trout section you will find tiny hooks used for flys. Put a bit of shrimp on it and go fishing. Lol. I am serious it worked caught him in 5min. Just make sure it is a tiny hook.

Really, I would never do that to a fish that was in my tank. Let alone one I paid for.

A couple of different things have worked really well for me in the past. You probably have a better chance of being struck by lightning than catching with a net lol. First thing you can try is letting the tank sit in total darkness for several hours and then turning the tank lights on full blast. This stuns the fish to the point where they can almost be picked up with your hands. This only works if you know where the fish "sleeps" though. Secondly, I have had good luck with acrylic traps with sliding doors. Bait the trap with food and wait. This method requires some patience since you will normally get every fish in there except the one you want at first. Good luck :)

I wouldn't use a hook to catch him.

But some large egg crates and section off the tank into quadrants and attempt to catch him that way.

im going to attempt the net this afternoon with the idea already that it maybe impossible. I do not have a trap so if it doesn't work out I may order...

I have read about catching with hook but this does concern me as one other wrote. This wouldn't injure the fish? Do they make hooks that small :)

I've never done it but it should be a barbless hook.

If the hook has a barb you can crush the barb with a pair of pliers, fish trap would be ideal though

Lenny lol that was the first thing that came to mind, a single salmon egg hook no barb how guilty are we

im thinking of chasing fish around the tank and stressing them all
knocking rocks over
rearranging, which then is dust cloud/nutrients and algae in 2018 because of the delay and sustain
then he hides in the rock and dies lol double impacted

I know its bad to consider fishing in tank but dang it really stood out here if a trap wont work

quit feeding the tank a couple days get them digestive juices flowin, barbless catch and be done instantly. his wound healing akin to a tail whack from a tang during somekind of peeing match etc. sorry but I had worked it all out in a nanosecond upon reading the title ur not alone

surely a trap can work, worth a few tries but ive seen some tanks where the hook might have to be the go to and im guilty for typing that thought lol. I know its offensive.

Sorry some may take it in the wrong way. But it was the least destructive way to catch him. Was the best option for him and the other tank inhabitants. By the way that fish now lives happily in another reefers tank. It does not hurt the fish. Obviously don't let them swallow the hook that would be bad.

Put food in the bottom of a net, put the net in your tank, and wait patiently.

I've caught pseduochromis and all other sorts of fast little darty fish this way

My acrylic trap works great but it has to be in the tank for a few days so they get used to it. Then, you have to make sure the fish you want is hungry enough to go into the trap. A word of caution ... I was moving fish from one tank to another and finally caught my big Enthias. Once he was trapped I took my sweet time organizing the move. Big mistake. He never really recovered and went to the great beyond a couple of days ago.

I had the same problem, I waited till the lights were out and used a flashlight to stun him ,he was pretty easy to catch ,just look for where he sleeps at night and be patient !

What if they sleep under rock? Somewhere that isn't easily accessible by hand. Like near the sand bed under a rock

Dwarf angels are tough to catch. They stay near the rocks and dart into hiding spots. Try making a fish trap from a bottle. That has worked for me many times. May take a few try’s but you’ll get him eventually

Can you explain the bottle fish trap?
