Catherine's wrasse fin growth

Hello, what's this growth on my wrasse. He eats and swims normally. It's a little clamped on growth side, but he's very active regardless. No other symptoms.

How long have you had the fish?
How long has it had this lesion?
Did it show up quickly, or grow over time?

The differential diagnosis is an infection versus a tumor.

ive had the fish for about 2-3 months now. The lesion showed up a few weeks after putting him in tank, cant' say if its been getting bigger... if it has not by much. I thought it would disappear by now, but now im a little concerned.

i have an oversized UV running at low flow for viruses and parasites, if that helps narrow it down

A UV unit wont address this and you dont want to wait this long to treat such an issue. Looks like its infected and will require treatment in a separate treatment tank using seachem Neoplex or tri-sulfa with an assurance of good water quality during and after treatment.

Well shoot, that's not quite how tumors act, but also not like bacterial infections do. Tumors grow slowly over time, while bacterial infections grow more quickly.

I'd agree that it is more likely a bacterial disease.

The UV won't help at all with lesions on the fish itself, since none of that gets passed through the unit.
