Caution Thinking 100% Captive Bred Sellers are without Disease Risk / Help

Just got the first two fish for a new system from a reputable company that sells only captive bred fish and claims to be isolated from disease. Well, unfortunately both fish have ICH day 1 in a brand new system with 100% new clean equipment and all clean dry rock (so there is no chance the ich came from anywhere but these fish).

so 2 things:

1) Public Service Announcement - DON'T trust sellers of captive bred fish even if they claim to only have captive bred fish in clean and isolated tanks free of disease.
2) What is the best way to eradicate ich in a new system? Considering I have no other livestock at this point is there an easy way to completely eradicate Ich without a full 76 day fallow period? I'm reading that taking the tank temp to 96 degrees for 2 days may be a quick solution? Any advice on that or other methods is appreciated. I know there is a lot of threads on Ich treatment already but I'm specifically asking in the context of whether there is an easier remedy given the lack of all live stock in a brand new system.

I always recommend QT of captive bred per your experience.

There is not a reef safe ich treatment. I would advise against a tank temperature of 96 degrees it would likely kill everything in your tank anyway.

Fallow period and treating the fish in a QT with TTM/copper/CP are about the only options I can recommend.

Thank you for the quick reply but could I please get your opinion with the understanding that these are the only living creatures (aside from chaeto and bacteria ) in the tank at the moment. There is nothing to kill, corals other fish etc. The tank just finished cycle and these are the first 2 fish.

These two fish would be moved to a QT tank before the heat treatment or any other treatment that might impact them.

I ordered two captive bred shrimp and my clownfish caught brooklynella. It’s all clean now. Just took awhile. Everyone was quarantined for awhile. Fish were treated in a separate tank with rally and kick ich. Display tank, with shrimp, snails, etc., was treated with metroplex. I took all carbon filters out and used air pumps for awhile instead so the treatment wouldn’t be filtered out.

My suggestion is to do exactly what @HotRocks tells you. There are rarely if ever any shortcuts if you want good results in a reef tank.

I'm sure he'll gladly explain why he suggests specific things, but most here will agree that he pretty well wrote the fish disease book on reef2reef. You'd do well to follow his lead.

The solution to ich is copper and fallow. If copper gets in the rocks, you'll never be able to have invertebrates or corals in that system unless you replace all the rock and substrate.

The heat to kill ich theory is debatable. I think that it may be effective in freshwater ich. I would still recommend a fallow period of 76 days if you want to be certain it will not remain in your tank. Are you positive it’s ich you are dealing with? Do you have any pictures of the afflicted fish?

Lol! I didn’t write the book! I just practice what I preach and my disease OCD is all @humlefish and @4fordfamily’s fault!

Pretty sure but what do you think? It's super hard to get the spots to show up on the body of the fish in the pictures but there are plenty there as well. You can see it easiest on the fin of one here.
