so at first there was a light colored area and I thought it might be flukes. So I did a round of prazi in qt. Then the light area became an open sore (but not bloody) and looked bacterial so I switched to metroplex and kanaplex after a ttm. Wound started to heal immediately but then upper fin area started to look off in some way. After 2 days it was time for second dose of metro/kana and I did a ttm again before dosing. Now it’s been a one day since that second round and something is definitely wrong as the upper body/fins are turning opaque and seem to be falling off or fuzzy.
You can see a little of the fuzzy cells on the long view picture below. I could add in furan-2. It’s still eating mysis well so I have hopes but it looks like it’s about to go downhill. Any suggestions please?

Add the Furan2 ASAP. I usually dose CBB's with Nitrofuracine Green immediately in the QT to prevent bacterial infections from starting. Time is not on your side. Sorry. Beautiful fish.
+1 to this^^^

I thought I had it nipped in the bud when the first sore started healing good but as usual things go downhill fast and it didn’t make it more that 6 hours after my post. A real kick in the teeth as I’ve never had a cbb that ate so well.
I’ve beaten it before several times with other fish using metro/kanaplex. Maybe this one had a secondary graham negative infection.
Next time should I add furan-2 to the mix immediately? I worry about hurting them with too many drugs as the other side of the scale.

If you are going to keep butterflies and/or angels, I highly recommend this ABX concoction to deal with red sores they sometimes develop in QT: http://store.nationalfishpharm.com/NFP-products-Nitrofuracin-Green-59584.Item.html

Using Kanaplex + Furan-2 + Metroplex all together at the same time would be suitable as well.

thanks so much for the input everyone. Just a couple last questions and we'll put this to bed.
1. Can all these be used with a cycled QT system safely?

2. Would you treat butterfly's/angels with these profylactically when you first get them or wait till something starts to appear?

thanks again

1. All except NFG, which sometimes destroys nitrifying bacteria.

2. I would probably at least dose Furan-2 + Kanaplex, or Spectrogram, when a butterfly or angel enters QT. (The dwarf angels are less likely to develop an infection.) If red sores or other signs of infection show, you will need to treat for 10-14 days.
