Looking for some input. I bought a very large CBB ( 5+ inches ) and a pair of gobies on 10/28. These were placed in a running 40 gal with a much smaller CBB. I observed no aggression towards the small CBB so I left it in with the new group of fish. The gobies were small and didn't last more than a 7-10 days. The pair of CBB did well until 2 weeks ago. The small was hiding and when I got her she was obviously beaten up. Fins and tail were nipped up. I separated but, she didn't make it.

So, I have not seen anything that would lead me to believe the large CBB is ill or needs any treatment. It has been 7 weeks now. Would you put her into the DT?

THanks, Paul C.

Personally I don't put anything in DT without treating.

What casued the death of the gobies? Was it disease related?

The gobies were very small, thin. I probably should have left them at the LFS. I never saw them eat in the tank.

What could be lingering after 7 weeks of observation? I have medicine here, but never saw anything that I thought needed to be addressed with meds.

Since you didn’t put them in dt straight away would take the opportunity to treat with prazipro at a minimum.
Where’d you get fish, if you don’t mind me asking?

Of course. I'm in no rush to get him in the DT. Was looking for opinions on the observation time vs treating just to treat. I have CP also on hand if the group thinks it would be wise to put him through a 30-day treatment of that.

Well, the longer i’m In the hobby and the more faith I have in nature’s ability to sort things out, the more i’m coming around to your natural, no qt, good diet way of thinking.
With all or most of your other inhabitants not been treated you likely have things in your tank that your fish are strong enough to overcome.
Don’t see much harm in a round or two of prazi. It won’t get everything but will knock down internal worms and flukes, giving the new fish a chance to get comfy in new tank. Sorta like a one time steroid shot.
The reason I asked where you bought them... advanced marine aquatics runs prazi and copper in their fish tanks. So if the fish has been in their store for 2-3 weeks it’s sorta almost as good as a qt/treatment period

We live in Western MA. This guy came from a very small store in Simsbury CT. Emmons Tropical Fish. I used to buy most of my freshwater Africans from there 20 years ago. Always liked his store because every tank is running on its own HOB filter. It isn't perfect, but you can sometimes see something that prevents me from buying when the store is on one huge central system.

I guess my "qt" is more of a observe and react when needed approach. I thought that after 7 weeks this guy was pretty much in the clear. I guess I question if flukes and internal parasites would have killed the fish by now?

Oh, sorry Mr. Paul C. Got you mixed up with Paul B.

Some people take every precaution and have problem after problem. Some people only acclimate then drop in dt and never have a problem.
Go figure

Me thinks most tanks probably have some level of flukes and internal parasites.

No worries. Have read all of Paul B's post. I do love his approach. I was actually going to reach out to him and hopefully visit him in the near future. I love to listen to old-school approaches. Had a LFS that closed this year. The owner is local to me and has helped with my 315 gal DT. He loves to hear all the things I have read about and laughs at most of them.
