My goal for my 125 is to correct some of the glaring problems that I have faced over the years, such as my sump design in which I cannot fit an in sump skimmer.
Ok, so after some more deliberation with the wife we decided that we are going to go with a 125
Here is a picture of the design for my sump/stand area that started it all. Everything is to scale. 1/8" = 1". Let me know what you think of the design. More will come as I think of it.
Top Frame:
Bottom Frame:
I built the interior section to the width of the tank (the part with the cross braces). The other 2x4 allong the back will allow me extra depth in the stand to fit my existing 40 gallon breeder under the stand for my sump, as well as have a bit more room. I will run a trim piece up the back of the tank to hide any cords etc.
The left side of the stand will be my electrical area. This will be sealed off from the rest of the stand and will have a few electrical boxes, the PC4s and other modules from my RKE, and (hopefully) my battery backup for my vortec(s) (Planning ahead)
The right side of the stand will be sealed off from the sump area, but will be open towards the back for ventilation. This area will contain shelves for my Metal Halide Ballasts, LED ballasts for my Actinics, and some other various everyday accessible reef items.
Here is the floor going in before painting:
Here is the area for shelves for my ballasts:
And here is a shot of the electrical area:
Picture of the fully assembled frame:
Had to plane the front board a bit as expected, but I still have one corner that is about 1/32 off. I think I will have to go with a plywood top, and possibly shim a bit in this corner under the plywood.
Here is the tank on the stand:
Here is the side that I am having a problem getting to level out:
And my other little miscalculation. I will have to take some of the crossbrace for the shelving area out to get my return bulkhead in.
