CCB Breathing Heavy, "swollen" gills

Hey Everyone,

My CCB has been with me for a year now. It eats everything so let's leave out the "they will starve themselves in captivity".

For about a month now I've noticed it's been breathing heavy, mouth open and the gills seem "swollen". No other fish are showing issues, there's 11 other fish tangs, anthias, wrasses.

The only thing going on in the tank is dinos. I run gac and change it out weekly, however I know the Dino's are non toxic as all snails are alive and breeding.

I am dosing lots of bacteria but my orp is still in high 300-mid 400. Skimmer shuts down for 12 hours a day since I dose bacteria every 12 hours. Even with skimmer on I don't see any improvement.

The CCb still eats and Chase's me down when it's hungry, but I don't see it swimming as much.

Ideas?

I know this is an old post, but my CBB is acting and looks to have the same thing yours did. Did you find what the problem was and a solution? Thanks!

Hey here, no idea what the problem is. My CCB is still doing great but looking back at pictures and videos of when it was a baby the gills did lay more flat and breathing was slower. Not sure if this is normal for a mature fish, no other fish losses and no signs of any diseases.

Glad he is doing good! Thank you for your insight, hopefully nothing to worry about with mine as well then.
