Had my aquatic life hybrid fixture hanging from the ceiling above my tank for about a year now. I was blowing off the rocks today and it came crashing down on my head and shattered a bulb into the tank. It appears that one of the crimps at the end of the braided wire came loose and the whole thing slipped out of the ceiling attachment. Anyone had this happen before and should I be worried about putting it back up with a new wire in the same fashion?

Wow, thats terrible.. I have seen one other account of them failing. *heads to tank to check fixture cables

Ouch. Sorry. I would definitely get better hardware and maybe a redundancy somehow. Also, I had a MH bulb shatter above my tank and pieces fell in without any major issues. Good luck!

Yikes! I’ve had nightmares of this happening....

only thing that gives me comfort is that my lights are being held up by 4 cables instead of 2. 1 on each end and 2 in the middle so hopefully even if 1 fails the other 3 will hold it up

Was so scared of this happening to me! So sorry.

I emailed AquaticLife and they sent me an additional set of cables free of charge and I use two on each side. Not the pretties hang job but I live alone so I don’t care!

As others have already pointed out check the complete install, both sides, and make sure everything is secure. I would replace the wire and attachment hardware again as others suggested.

For what it is worth while not a hanging unit from the ceiling I did drop a DIY multi channel LED light in my tank. I had asked my daughter for help and she said yes, just needed a minute to finish something up. Well, me being me decided no need to wait and thought I had this. Up the ladder I go, reach up, start to move stuff around and out, wire bundle gets snagged, I tug, and then reach over and through the canopy only to miss and drop the connection clip. My eyes go wide, I say OH NO, and hear the splash while watching the unit gently float to the bottom of the tank. 30" tall. My daughter came into the room, said what the heck dad, why didn't you wait, and then moved me aside, reached in and got the unit out (at least it was unplugged before hand), and proceeded to rinse the unit in DI water. Her quick action saved the light and it still works amazingly well 2 years later.
