I just read something about a good tank with thick glass tank not needing a center beam what's the deal with that cause I have a cheap tank

Center braces help keep the tank from bowing. Thin glass does not hold up as well as thick glass when stressed.

Thick glass tanks are strong enough not to bow, and therefore do not need them. But they are much thicker than normal tanks, just for this.

Friend of mine bought a used 75g that had 1/2" glass with no center brace. He paid $10 for the tank, why am I never around for deals like this :banghead:

Local reef club forums have fantastic deals in the buy/sell section.
I bought a 160g(7ft) with 125g sump, stand, hood & all the plumbing for $525.
I almost bought a complete 75g setup with a coast to coast beananimal overflow for $100 but someone cut my throat on the deal, just to list it on Craigslist two weeks later for $200.
Glad that happened though cause I'm much happier with the 160g, 7ft is sweet!
