Centerpiece fish for 40 gallon tank

multicolor angelfish but it may nip at sps polyps, lps, or clams its another one of those risky angels, just like flame and flameback. Mccoskers* fairy wrasse could be cool if you have a top, small biota yellow tangs are nice too but will need an upgrade in the future.

Why does it have to be a fish lol the goldencmoray eel stays small and is a stunner! Or if you don’t mind yr other fish being treats a lion fish is a good one. A huge arrow crab would also be nice

Black Leopard Wrasse

His tank is too small for a Black Leopard. I'd love one but I wouldn't do that to a fish. I have a 40B with a 40B sump. Fish need to be in appropriate sized tanks

it is 30" long so it really isnt terrible if it is the largest fish in a relatively peaceful tank, though i do think the mccoskers or other similar sized flasher wrasse (made mistake before by saying pintail) might look nicer and flash a lot when with the pink streaked wrasse.

6” probably won’t make that much of a difference but it would be preferred. I would add the wrasse first though if possible to let it settle and then if you wanted another, you could try a leopard the Choati is a long way but if you Atleast get experience with the easier ones - Meleagris and BSLW - then work up to the slightly harder ones and gain the experience you should be able to have Atleast the basic care of a choati after about 10-15 years of keeping leopards. I’ve started with a M. bipartitus but hope to eventually get hold of a M. choati after working with keeping M. bipartitus alive and thriving for Atleast 5 years then do M. negrosensis and keep that alive for Atleast 5 years and then maybe try a harder one (Moyeri or Kuiteri) and then eventually the Choati.

I’ve had a couple of potters, a black leopard, and a Kuiteri. Never could bring myself to try a Choats. My old boss at the LFS told me horror stories about them not shipping well. I truly believe it’s luck of the draw unless you’re buying from DD

no a pintail should get too big for this tank. a mccoskers or a carpenters would do much better than the larger pintail

Actually, that’s not true. Black leopards need a 3’ tank because of their food supply being “low” which is an old myth. As proven by todays leopards, these fish don’t swim as much as what people think they do (4’ tanks are plenty of room, a 30” tank is minimum).

Yeah, this is what I’m afraid of when it comes to this fish. And LA/DD now has a bad reputation…

Forget the flasher wrasse genus, as I said in my first post:
These fish NEED 4’ tanks otherwise they dive into things. wrasse they stay 3-4” won’t do too bad unless they’re hyperactive swimmers (NOT the Macropharyngodon genus).

Dwarf Golden Morays are almost impossible to get now, Hawaii is the only place theyre from.

Not flashy by any means but I love our Toby puffer. It has the cutest personality and seems to recognize me and want to hang out more than our other fish

Many of the DD fish don’t even come from a LA facility right? I thought I saw somewhere they ship right from the wholesaler

It's the other way around. LA fish come direct from wholesaler to your door. DD spend time in Wisconsin facility to be conditioned.

If you go with a puffer then when you add new inverts it’s best to add them in at night. If they’re added when the puffer is asleep then the puffer will think nothing of it.
