What are the effect on a tank with ceramic magnets submerged in the saltwater? I am building a DIY magnetic frag rack and need to know if the magnets need to be encased in silicone.

Ceramic magnets are considered to be reef safe. I've used them in my tanks for years. They don't rust.
Besides most powerhead impeller magnets are ceramic magnets.

Yeah, but most are sealed in some type of epoxy aren't they.

Never mind, I was thinking about the top of the MJ's where the electrical stuff is. doh

Where would one buy ceramic magnets? I have been using rubber coated/plastic coated ones, which all seem to eventually start leaking after a while, from KJMAgnetics.com.
