Chaeto and ulva floating

My Chaeto and ulva in my refugium keep clumping together and floating across the top. I have a Tunze powerhead in there to have some flow. It used to not float and cover the surface, is this normal? Or does it just need a good thinning out? I have a ton in there.

Ok thanks. It looks like a big huge thick mat, I guess it's time to thin it out a bunch!

Yes, thin it so more can grow.
