I do not have a refugium, but am considering it. A friend told me that there is a risk with Caulerpa. That being, you can wake up one morning, the caulerpa bombed, and turns your whole tank green while killing everything!! Is that true?

Knowing that chaeto is extremely popular ... what are the risks or problems with chaeto? Any?

Caulerpa can go A sexual and spread, but many hobbyist use it. It's band in California, as it's considered a pest algae. Yes, they can't sell it there.

Chaetomorpha is easier to use and grow in my opinion.

No real risk involved with Cheato that I know of perhaps awesome nutrient export is a risk ?! Pod breading ground a risk ?? Lol jk I have not heard any bad thinks about Cheato. If for some reason a piece brakes off and makes its way up it’s easy to remove. My tang actually eats it if she sees any blow by

Interesting to know that the California nanny-state extends to my freaking red tank besides my gun safe. ***. [emoji849][emoji58]

The reason caulerpa is banned in some states is for the exact same reason you want to avoid it in your tank - it’s highly invasive. Some species worse than others, but if it gets into the display it is very hard to eliminate. Plus, it’s so 1990 ..... Pass.
