Chaeto egg crate sandwich idea.

Little late here but seems like a great idea! I have a current battle now between my cheato and HA in the fuge. Both are competing in the same volume. Chaeto is doing "ok" and is growing, but HA is infusing itself within the Chaeto and afraid it will take over eventually. Any one try this lately?? Curious to hear updates or other ideas to snuff out HA and keep the Chaeto going!

Just started it again on my 120 gal. Lots of nuisance algae trying to grow over the chaeto sandwich. I’ve been sweeping the top with my hand everyday, sending the bad algae over the overflow and collected on a pad.

Great idea. I made two egg crate sandwiches. Just getting my sump ready for my 650 litre build

Great idea! I’ll be trying this out.

I saw this last awesome idea night, and built this one this afternoon. Fantastic share. I hope it works for me.

This is my initial try at a refugium (and reef tank). I'm hoping that shading the Marine Pure block kills off the hair algae and whatever other brown stuff is growing in my Reefer 350 built-in fuge.

How does it seem to be working ? Was going to do some fuge work this weekend and do this maybe.
What kind of flow do you have or should there be ? It is pretty calm in mine. Here is where I was putting it. Thoughts?

This looks like just the thing for my Eshopps R-300 sump. The flow through the refugium section isn't sufficient to tumble the chaeto so it just sits on the bottom. It'll be interesting to see how it works in this sump as the water will be flowing up through the algae.

How did you get that to adhere and not float / move?

I believe I had some random small suction cups that had little plastic hooks. But I no longer use the sandwich method. I've switched to full lighting above and below:
