Fresh healthy chaeto will not fall apart as soon as it hits the water. Chaeto can be given a fresh water dip for 15 minutes and still be firm.

imo, this chaeto was already dying when it was put into the tank.

I had the same experience with this vendor a month ago.

I put chaeto in a perforated floating container in my refugium section of my sump. You may need more chaeto than that to get it going. I started from a baseball size and now have to prune it every week. When I didn’t use the perforated container i had the same problem.

Chaeto goes to helI at higher temperatures. My guess is if it wasn’t shipped with cool pack it was probably toast.

And algaebarn shipping is not the best for sure as I have plenty of issues with their products not being climate controlled during shipping.

I might try putting it in a mesh bag like the kind fruit come in lemons limes etc…
