Looking for new light/bulb for my refugium. My chaeto doesn't grow very well. I know my water has enough gunk in it to feed chaeto. What light fixtures and bulbs are you using? How is chaeto grown?

One of those cheap fixtures that you can put in a shop light fixture has always done well and are relatively cheap.

I use a bulb from reef radiance its their dm5e but a small power head in with your chaeto helps to

Algae grows from nutrients and light.
I run just a standard 10W 2700k led standard base. Lots of yellow.
When you say you have enough "gunk" what are you referring to?
I don't want certain people to come unglued again so I will keep this simple.

Oh and this lamp cost me 7$

Go to get a par 38 led bulb from Home Depot or lowes. Don't wast money on a over hyped fuge light, I've been there done that. The par 38 is energy efficient and grows my chaeto like crazy, I have to throw a bucket of it away every month or so.

The bracket above ^ is the exact bracket I used, it's only $10-$15. But look into that par 38led, it has a much stronger output and lasts for years.

Little lights will keep it alive, but if you want the growth to explode check out his thread. Specifically post [HASHTAG]#271[/HASHTAG]. Incredible growth. The lights are cheap I think. $60-80 with a bulb and replacement bulbs are $20.

I think BRS is working on some videos trying out some different lighting combos for growing macro. May want to give them a call. Kessil is also making horticulture lights now as well. They are a little more expensive but probably more effecient, and put less heat into your sump.

All I know is that it grows fast using the Sylvania bulbs. I'm always given it to my local fish store.

Well by gunk I mean I still have some algae in dt. Not much since swapping to ocean revive leds. I run a clamp light with 23w 6500k cfl. Didn't do very good. So I added a powerhead. Still not much luck with growth. Thinking my light isn't strong enough. But on another note, I do have only 2 fish, and about 10 good size frags of coral. Tank is 75g and sump/ fuge is 30g. I also skim pretty heavy, and my drain to sump hits skimmer before it gets to chaeto. Some unique skimmed water definitely makes it to chaeto, but not a whole lot.

That's what I am hoping for. I have never had to take any out other than when it gets stringy and light color. Then I just buy more and try again.

Here is the thing..
It doesn't grow cause it doesn't have anything to live off of.
People say its "your lighting isn't sufficient enough" lol I just laugh at that.
Here is an analogy
Don't water or feed your lawn.. what will it do even with all the sun you can give it.
It will die
You have had the right lights all along.
Nothing though to sustain it :-)
