Chaeto pieces are getting out of the refugium and getting into my skimmer pump.

Any tips for keeping it in the fuge?

Thanks.

Oh crimini,
We just started our sump/fuge and got a donation of chaeto that is making a mess everywhere. I was presuming that it was because the pieces we got were only an inch long, and they would grow out of becoming an issue. Now I am worried that may not be the case.
Cheers! Mark

Yea I have long strands of it but there are also pieces that float around once I move it, thin it or rotate it!

Tagging Too ....................... I worry about this

i did this in my 3+ year biocube reef got tired of chaeto in return pump. maybe you can adapt it to your space/flow?

2 pieces of eggcrate cut to fit a space between return and chamber with chaeto/fuge. layer of floss between and 2 rubber bands. change it once a week collects chaeto bits, pods, crud, etc.

One of the reasons I have my skimmer before the refugium.
But having said that I use foam blocks ( inside a baffle ) to keep the cheato from entering the return area.

I use that knitting mesh (I think its called plastic canvas). Its a hard plastic mesh with about 1/8 inch holes. I place it all around my fuge, front and back side, to keep the algae in place
