chaeto question

Has anyone ever put Chaeto directly in there tank. I don’t really have room in my sump or do I want to add a light in my sump. Thanks. So what would be the pros and cons.

pros: you'll have chaeto
cons: you'll have a terrible mess of fragmented chaeto spreading all over your display and competing with your corals for light.
I'd consider a chaeto reactor long before handbombing a chunk into your tank.

As above. Not a good idea, IMO. You would never be able to get all of it out of the DT.

I periodically moved it from my sump to my main tank to feed my tangs, who chomped it up.

I put cheato in my sump..some how found it's way into my DT. I just pull a ball of cheato out of my DT every few weeks. As someone stated, you will never get it all out..but it is managable as long as you dont mind the green steel wool in your tank

I was thinking about putting some in a fish holding box and than place it in my tank. Hopefully controlling it from spreading

it reads like you're describing an acclimation box which would work better than just tossing it in but imo you'd still get some in the display. As some have mentioned earlier, depending on the fish some might consume it and some won't. Mine unfortunately do not.

I did this to one of my first tanks about a decade ago for the same reason and I regretted it. It's an eye sore and you will never really get it all out.
