Chaeto refugium, brightell xport brick or both???

Im getting back into the hobby after 20 years. trying to plan my sump. Does chaeto cause bubble issues,or slime or general mess, or should i brightwell xport brick only?

or should i do both in refugium section of my sump?

Cheato is worth it for helping maintain proper PH and nutrient export. As far as the block goes I just toss some extra rock into my fuge.
