This is my 2nd try at keeping chaeto in my fuge. The first time, the ball of chaeto eventually got smothered in purple and green slime. Cleaned it all out, threw what was left of chaeto out and tried again

This time, I added a nano powerhead to keep it tumbling. I added a softball size of chaeto and, few months later, it has shrunk and covered in purple and green slime. Display is fine. Rocks and sand are clean.

So I cleaned the fuge out again and waiting to figure this out before I add chaeto or anything else

What's going on with my fuge? How do readers keep their chaeto growing and the fuge nice and clean?!

What light are you using, what are your nutrient levels, and what is your display tank lighting?

Using an led 5k bulb

Nitrates are 20ppm
Phosphates .2

I actually just added 4 kessil a360ws
It's possible that your bulb isn't strong enough for the chaeto to out-compete the bad algae in the sump. Are you noticing increased algae in the display as well or just in the sump?
