So I have 3 fistfuls of chaeto in my 13.5 evo. My question is how fast does is suck out nitrate? My nitrate is at 15 and I need it at 10

That is practically not possible to answer and any number someone gives you will not be accurate in your case. Also, it is very unlikely that your test kit is accurate enough to distinguish 5ppm and truly say nitrates are at 10 vs 8,12,15, etc.

When I started my fuge, it took just over a month to see a reduction in nitrates. Ongoing, I find if I harvest half of it every week or every other week, it does a better job keeping the nitrates down.

Or just do a 5 gallon water change and you're at 10. Then let the chaeto take it from there.

I dealt with a Nitrate problem recently by using Chaeto. Using the ‘Fistful’ measurement I’d say about 6-8 bunches of Chaeto were added. Brought my Nitrates from around 5pmm down to about 2.5ppm based on Salifert and Hanna Checker tests. Took about 2 weeks to see that movement in my testing. Also performed my weekly water change through out that time, which IMO is the best thing for nitrate removal.

Can we all just take a moment and focus on this? Its a 13.5 gallon tank! Do the water change now and get the levels down.

Also an impossible to answer question based on lighting, water flow, trace element availability ect

As mentioned above, our kit is probably not that accurate to even detect a 15 to 10 ppm drop.

Is your tank going to be greatly better at 10 ppm than 15 ppm? doubtful.

I would do a water change but I’m waiting for my salt to come in. I just dosed some de nitrate and I’m waiting for that
