Hi,
I’m thinking of starting to dose chaetogro and wonder I’d anyone has seen an increase in Gha that they suspect is caused by the product. I have no Gha now and chaeto growth is slow but okay. Thinking this product may be a good supplement. I don’t do routine water changes as my system is stable without them. I do run a softy tank with fish and have higher nitrates and phosphates but no problems.
Any thoughts?

I highly recommend the product. I have only seen hair algae spike up if I dose phosphate for my tank, which I only started recently, and never from chaetogro which I have been dosing for a while.

You may actually only need to supplement with iron. Something like ferrion.

My chaeto turns to mush each harvest. I have been told to use chaeto grow but recently got a trace element test kit and it appears I have no iron. Do salt mixes not add any? I use two little fishies salt but am going to switch to tropic marin pro. Thanks!

I can't figure out why people would want to supplement chaeto and be worried about growth. Check your nitrates and phosphates, if these are acceptable and your tank is clear of nuisance algae, then you are good. If you are cultivating a macro display tank you may want to check iron, but otherwise, it is no concern. If your macro isn't doing it's job; check your lighting, lighting schedule, and flow. Chaeto is also sourced from fresh/brackish pools in FL, and this chaeto does not do well.

Reef Salt has it but iron is rapidly depleated in reef tanks (see Randy Holmes Farley's write up on iron for more info). Chaeto needs more than nitrate and phosphate to grow and without supplementation the chaeto can die.
