I'm going to add a ball of chaeto to my sump and was looking for a maintenance routine. This is my first experience with macros and I'm concerned about the chaeto collecting detritus.

keep it tumbling and youll be fine youll need to trim it once maybe twice a mnth

Good deal, I plan on a powerhead in the sump. Is 10k needed? I have a reflective CFL, 5100k...

5100k is the ideal spectrum. As it balls up and grows, u can twist and tear it. This forces the chaeto to repair itself, thereby increasing growth and nutrient removal.

Mine grows out of control.

Twist and tear, gotcha. I'll give it a shot.
