i purchased some chaetomorpha today for my refugium, what is this that came with it?

I would think it's the balls off of some grape caulerpa. I would take it out until somebody more positive can ID it and leave it in a cup of tank water for now in case its something bad.

Thanks . After googling it, It's grape caulerpa

I would get it out of your system if you think it's. grape Caulerpa. I had it go a sexual on me and it is a pain to get ride of after that.

I didn't see any stalks/vines definitely grapes. It's not a lot to do any harm. I'd keep it. Some fear of it going sexual.

I took another look at your pic and I see some green balls on the glass bottom. Are there vines that the grapes are attached to?

I had a tank get wiped out by Caulerpa (grape and feather) breaking down and releasing spores. If you keep it trimmed that may not happen, but I will never willingly add Caulerpa to a reef tank of mine. Chaeto and dragon's breath both work well without that problem.

Alternatively, it's Valonia that looks weird, and you should remove it as well.
