So being brand new to the hobby i visit a local chain store to see what they have in salt water department. Some nice corals and i guess frags?? Small and usually there is some algae on them. Is this normal, and would it be a problem in a new tank. The people there say it's normal. I haven't been to a place that just only deals with saltwater aquariums so i really don't know.

I typically pass those by.
The best way to get algae is to introduce it, you don't want that.
Around here they carry flatworm so qt is a must

Good way to introduce problem algae to your tank.
Having a qt-tank is a good way to help prevent doing that if that piece you see is a must have piece.
In the qt you can do different things to remove the pest algae or or pests.
