Hey everyone! I see that a lot of people have their chalices down on bigger flat rocks or plate looking things to keep them off the sand. What are they and how do I make or get them? Thanks!

I use the white tumbled marble tiles from lowe's. it's keeping my crabs from barreling them over

Are they round? My urchins keep picking up my Corals and its irritating me. One grabbed a hold of my bpc FT and drug it around the tank all night.

No they are 4x4" sqaure. I just bust them down a bit with a hammer.. they are very porous and cut easily.

I'm looking for how people make the round ones. Do you transfer the chalices before they grow into a square shape?

That's cool but too pricey for me. I've got quite a few chalices and need something more economical.

Buy a few different sizes of diamond drill bits and make your own out of the tavertine tile from HD. Thats what I do.....I make 3" and 1.5". I also use my inlands saw and cut them down in half so they are not as thick....but thats not necessary.

Well, as a college student, money comes and goes so yeah..lol. The chalice domes are cool but I have like 10 chalices at least so that's $100+ for something I could make myself. :)

I got mine from RaysReef (A frag was mounted on it). I don't know if he sells them by the bag, but he very well might.

See echinata on the far right.

Any issues with contaminates with these Home Depot tiles? Any tile will work or a certain type you guys pick up? What about curing them before use?

I haven't used these before obviously, but am very interested in a cheaper way to make larger frag disks.

Thanks.

i take flat shells from the ocean and sun dry them for a while then throw them in a little 10 gallon tank that i have, after a few months i super glue the frag to it and they stay on the sand and the corals can spread across it easily.
