has anyone delt with this in a few of my chalices I have get slite bleaching in spots sotimes it goes away other times they recede but it only affects certain ones not all any idea's ? my parameters are GREAT so just need any personnel experance info if you have dealt with this.

Thanks,Jody

I had the issue before and lost quite a few on my 180g .. I never really have an answer as I don't know what I did wrong.. but the only thing I did was dose magnesium once a week and keep my tank on the colder side like 78... I did all that was suggested " Interceptor , keeping it in shade, low flow " but didn't stop it. ..

Right now I am holding some chalices from my friends tank.. he has the same issues for months.. on and off " one week ok, one week it receeds" .He can never find the problems so I told him to give me all his chalices and as off now its been holding in my tank.. I dipped them in Coral Revive before it goes into my system and replug most of them..

good topic Jody... and awesome suggestion Pnoy... let's keep this thread going... I know it'll help someone out later down the road... since chalices have been really hottt lately, let's all try to figure this out... looking forward to reading more replies from people that have kept chalices for a while (1-3 years)... :)

This what gets me I have had chalices going on ver 2 years now most of those have never been affected I would say out of the 40 some I have 3-4 are being affected so I;m at a loss as everything checks out the only guess I can make is maybe my tank goes through lower then normal nutrient levels that may affect these certain types but I have also had it happen after fragging this just happened on one I have had for over a year growing doing well did some frags then it started to bleach now im down to one frag that has also bleached.

hmmmm.... interesting... any pics of the said morph before bleaching and now? I've also kept a few chalices... my very first one was the Original ME directly from whodah... that was probably 2-3 years ago... always did good for me... I'm just now getting into them more... all I know is don't put new frags on high flow... lost 4-5 frags of Original ME that way... :(

What kind of flow are these pieces getting? I personally find that established chalices like more flow than most people will attest to...also how about your magnesium levels, do they stay stable?

Also, any chance they are close to other LPS that might sting?

yep i test weekly for over a year now my mag has been between 1200-1300 everytime dosnt get any higher and they get good flow.

very strange indeed, I wonder if their is a correlation between these occurences and the low nutrient systems??

Are they near any Favias? I didnt realize until some night swimming in my tank lately that some Favias have some seriously long feeder tentacles and i have seen them sting some of my chalices at night and cause some white spots.

I wonder who would win between the favia and chalice?

My belief is that low nutrient systems make some species of chalice more prone to infection and disease. This may be why TMPCC, lugols, Revive, and Interceptor have been noted to cease or pause the recession, but not always "cure" whatever is causing it. The solution may be in multiple dips and increase in nutrients.

I have 1 chalice colony that has potential that looks like that.. Makes me sad ) = and i've tried everything.......... All my other chalice's are 100% fine! Wierd..

yea it sucks the top pick has actualy healed up if that gives you any hope the bottom ones are the newest to come down with this but like you theres another 30+ types that arnt affected

Jody i'm glad you posted those pics. It's funny as i had a big colony that started to bleach like that and it started to receed. But i have frags of it and none of the frags bleached or receeded. Just the mother colony. I ended up cutting it all up but they still look bleached and most of it died from the recession.
