Im fairly new to the world of chalices but have had a few for a very long time. I have a Green Splatter chalice from Unique Corals, a Hollywood Stunner, and Pink ******* Chalice that have been in my tank for over 1 1/2 years and have had not a lot of growth till recently. My Hollywood stunner was about the size of a quarter when I got it and I have placed it all over the tank to find a place it actually liked, well finally about 4 months ago I placed all 3 about 2" from the sand bed in almost no light. Well they have grown crazy since then and have colored amazingly! The Hollywood is now about the size of a softball and the green splatter went from a nickel size to about the size of a half dollar, the pink ******* went from a quarter to about the size of a silver dollar. Is this normal for most type chalices? , cause I am really interested in buying some nice types but would like to know if they are all gonna have to reside on the bottom of my tank?

You're on the right path regarding placement. All of my chalices are placed in a shaded area and they have had great growth as well.

I do have one chalice which is the WWC The Situation that has not colored up to what it should it be and I am experimenting with placement but in general, shaded areas with some light seems to be the average placement.

Ive just been wondering cause I have a few corals that reside on the sand bed as well that id rather not end up in wars with the chalice, But with that being said im also interested in getting a few more of the nice rainbow chalice.

From my experience most of my chalices like being near the bottom of the tank. Most of my rainbows are not directly on the sand bed but maybe an inch or two from it but indirect light from my LEDs. Most of them aren't indirect flow also. Once they find a spot they like they do tend to grow faster tho!

This is good to hear, like I said I want to start collecting more but was worried about placement issues. Is there any that are just more picky chalice to watch out for?

I've had quite a few rainbows. Haven't had any issues with any being any more picky than any other. As long as you acclimate them properly to your tank and lighting I think they'll be fine. Be careful with rainbow chalices... They're very addicting!

Yes this is what I am afraid of lol! I went on a Scoly buying spree and became one broke man lol, but I love all of them and would do it again. Im just trying to decide what is a good rainbow chalice to start with, got any suggestions?

Yea I'm one broke guy after all these rainbows. Haha. Umm... I don't think you can go wrong with any rainbows. But my favorite in my tank is my rainbow crush cuz it's one of the brightest out of the ones I have but has by far the fastest growth of any of my rainbows.
