I have my chalice under a ledge completely out of light. It seems to be doing ok. Everytime I turn on the lights I can see it swelled up then later deflate while lights are on. What all do I need to do to keep it happy and get it growing?

It can use more light. As a general rule these corals are found low down on the reef. Light still reaches them, but there is much less light than the reef crest. The flat shape of chalices is actually an adaptation to collect more light at these greater depths. Being in the shadows all the time will deprive the coral of the energy it needs. If it's been in shadows for a long time, move it out slowly or reduce light hours and gradually increase them so as not to shock it.
