I'm trying to get an idea on how to incorporate chalices in the rockwork... I've seen them on rocks, overhanging (kinda cool) and most are on sand bed, which is also pretty cool... but since most people have multiple chalices, I wanted to see where you guys have your chalices... :)

if you guys have them on the rockwork, any technique on how glue/epoxy them in the rockwork?

Thanks...

I was thinking about this the other day after looking at Steve's and Peter's tanks. Mine are all on the sandbed, and I hate the look of it. Maybe I can steal some ideas from this thread. :)

Me to, one that i always like the look of was the OG pic of the MM how it bowed but never tuched the ground because of the way it was mounted, i think that on rockwork would be nice.

yay!!! I'm not alone...

I was also thinking of getting some flat rock and incorporate the rock in the scaping and glue the plug and let it encrust whatever way she decides to... I think that would look cool too... :)

I think the biggesst thing here is most people dont like letting there 200+ and eye chalice's grow out like that. The only prob with you idea is intime when they hit you will see thousands of dollers just die marvin. I think the most best looking sick idea would be gooshes new island thing. I think some nice chalices on there would look amazing throw in a scrolly and a few shrimp that will look nice. I know when he "officioly" comes out with one ima set up a tank like that.

First i will put them on the sand bed to get used to the lights. Then i mount mine to rock that is about the size of my fist or smaller so i can move it around if its not doing what i want it to. You can always keep adding it to a bigger rock as it grows, some i mount on big rock because i want them to get really big. I use that tube mix putty and push some on the rock and overlap it on the plug so it stays. I had one fall of because the putty did not hold that sucked :( will try to post some pics this weekend :)

ah.. yikes... I plan on mounting the doubles in the rockwork but the main colonies will be mostly in the sand bed... :)

I was pondering a resolution for my sand bed frags the other night. I decided that I want to either get a fabricated rock or pull a good size piece out of my sump and drill holes to allow for the frag plug pegs. I would then glue the large discs with the chalice frag on it to a standard frag plug that would mount on the rock structure on my sandbed. This should keep that portion of the tank from being a dead zone and will also allow me to trim, move replace my chalices as well as look visually pleasing.

Sounds good now, I will just see how it turns out.

thought about this too... the LR I received from the previous owners have holes drilled in them... but I've used some of the holes for SPS... hmmmm... so many different ideas.... thanks to all the chimed in already... :)

Yea i use a rock almost a perfict square 3x3 drilled about 15 holes in it and let alot of my high end z's and p'z grow there. Its more of where i let them heal b4 a sale and maybe bud a new baby or two.

I use the fragstations and do just what you said. Glue a plug on the disk. Looks pretty good. I'm finding that I like the fragstations more and more and keeps the sand out of the chalices. The fragstations really don't seem to get the credit they deserve, really nice product.

I am using the Gooch's ( thealternativereef.com ) "big uns" for my chalice, I will share photos when I get a chance.
