chalice growth

Depending on LEDs I would say hide your challies... I had problems with bleaching after making the switch... LEDs are very decieving.. They don't look bright but will cook them in a minute...

+1

LEDs can produce more PAR than advertised.

Personally I've seen good growth at the bottom of my tanks. As long as you parameters are stable and you acclimate you should be fine.

IMHO I would keep them lower vs higher. Troylee is 100% right.

hey Bill hows it going....... my new Apex is awsome thanks.......thats what i was thinking as well...my chalices love to be high under my MH but as soon as my leds get here i am gonna move them to the bottom and run my leds at about 30 percent to start out with....thanks for the in-put troylee

To be honest its hard to say.

LEDs can specify and apply the spectrum the zooxanthellae use the most. This in most cases offers a serious improvement in PAR vs current lighting. The downside is acclimation.

I think 30% is a bit below your last lighting but best to be safe. Corals can go weeks with less light...Stormy Days on the Reef....

I would ramp it up gradually both in time and intensity.

When I first started with LEDs some bleached then I dialled them down. SPS however did better and in most cases showed better growth.

This was a few years back when I first switched over. Now the LEDs are even more efficient and powerful so acclimation is key.

My personal lighting is based on this graph.

I've had my chalices under LED's for about 6 months and seen good growth out of most of them. My acid trip just doesn't want to grow under any light.

I have a Miami Hurricane that I got as a very small frag with one full eye and another forming about 6 weeks ago. I put it on my sand bed under LED in a 20" deep tank and have had outstanding growth. It's doubled in size and no has a full third eye.

i too have my miami hurricane on the sandbed and the growth is doing great. I love my leds

Miami hurricane is very hardy and will grow well under most lighting as long as it is not over killed. I am curious about WM chalices, as most of them like low light.

I've had good luck with my Tyree Red Watermelon that I've kept under LEDs for the past 2 years.

My Tyree watermelon chalice is about 4" off the sandbed in my 75g I have seen great growth from AI sols running 65% max power.

I have an original mummy eye that has had great growth under my AI Sol B's. I put some plugs under the rim and poped one off a few weeks ago. I'll go snap a pic and see where it is after a few weeks.

I popped this off maybe 4 weeks ago? It didn't have any eyes. Pic taken today about 5 mins ago.

Yea my alien eye chalice and strawberry patch both bleached but my purple with gold eye chalice
Loves them. On a side note rhodactus shrooms hate my led but ricordea love them. Had a yuma split right after I got my led that previously sat there for 6 months under t5

I hope my chalice does this good. I have a couple in my 27 gallon cube. I switched from T-5 to AI Sol Blue LEDs about 2 months ago.

That's a huge amount of growth in that time! Also, is that snail alive? It looks like it, but it's in the same place in all 3 pics!

I included him in there for size reference lol. I think it just likes hanging around the chalices...I cover them with mysis every couple days so the rocks around my chalices have the most algae. This is where I found him today ...(sorry bout the pic, under only blues)
