Hey everyone I am needing some help with my chalice coral. I just got back from college yesterday, and noticed my chalice had white spots on it which I’m assuming is where the skeleton of the coral is showing through. Anyway, i got home later yesterday so I tested my numbers today.
Salinity 1.026
Temp 80 F
Alkalinity 7.4 dKH
and calcium level at 220ppm....
I have no idea how it got that low. I’ve been having my brother dose the same amount every day for the last two years and it’s always been fine. Assuming it is that low I guess I need to bring it back up slowly. However could my calcium test kit be too old? It’s 2 years old. Also in the pictures my torch coral is really close to the chalice, but I don’t think that would be the issue. They’ve been like that for 6 months and the chalice jut stopped growing towards the torch. Any help would be appreciated. I dont have a nitrate and phosphate test kit, but I can get the numbers later tonight. Tank is 93 gallons and 4 years old. 6 small fish. Thanks all!

Dang yeah work your Cal back up, remember the more corals grow the more dosing u will have to do. But chalice deflate all the time from you much light flow etc or possibly the side effects from having low calcium, it might be competing for calcium and not able to get enough to stay happy. Is that a Miami hurricane it looks discolored?

Ya I’m going to be working the calcium up and testing it everyday till it gets back up to were I want it. Ya it’s a Miami hurricane but I agree with you about the coloring. It’s discolored on the part in the picture but on the back half of it, it still has good coloring. Thanks ya it’s a pretty big chalice and would hate to lose it.
