Hey guys,

Just got this piece for $30 bucks. I was under the impression it's a Miami hurricane chalice beings that it has so many similar characteristics. It has orangish/yellowish eyes with a green rim. The flesh is navy blue almost royal purple. Anyone have an idea?

If it has a "Green Rim", it may be a Watermelon. MHs don't typically have green rims, just solid navy green color with orange eyes. They do like LOW light.

Only one of the eyes has a green rim, I took another look. That's odd but they are still small eyes. Right now I have it on the sand bed roughly 21" under a hydra at 40%.

I don't believe it's an Aftershock:) Those are pretty expensive and you really know when your sold one. The MH eyes do start off with rainbow like colors as they start growing. I would place it under a over hang if you have it for 2-3 wks and gradually move it out to more light to see how it reacts to the light. Better too little that too much:) Mine likes the shade, I had half out under T5s and half under. The color of the under is much better IMO. I spot feed mine at least 1x a week with Reef-Roids or Reef Frenzy. It can take a little while to crank up but when it does, they grow @ S-M speed. Hope my experience helps some.

Idk man, looking at that pic and the coral, they look dead on. Miami hurricanes are closer to a teal color and definitely don't have a green rim, at least not one I've ever seen. Who knows, the guy that sold it to me said he didn't know! Thank you for the tips, I will slowly move out from under the shade. I just finished feeding em a mixture of Omega AA's and Reef-Roids ;)

I thought you said the green rim was around the new eyes?? As I mentioned previously, if it has a green rim around it it's not a MH. Either way, it's an awesome coral. Good luck and keep us posted:)

The green rim is around the two biggest eyes, the tiny eyes don't have the green rim (yet?). Will do buddy and thanks!

Miami hurricane fr sure but hopefully yours morphs like his did so you can call it aftershock! [emoji54]

Are all the eyes pointing outwards?
If so its a type of mycedium and not a MH.

My MH, for reference, is on the right side under the ledge.
