I have been offered a beautiful chalice frag from a friend. Obviously I don't want to accept it unless I can provide for its needs. According to Than at Tidal Gardens chalices need about 100 PAR lighting. I have a stock 32 LED Biocube and don't have a PAR meter nor access to one at a LFS. I currently have thriving LPS and softies. Has any had success (thrive, not survive) with a chalice in a stock LED Biocube? Appreciate and suggestions and/or advice.

I know they say Biocubes are lower par but I’ve seen others claim their stock led 32 par readings between 200-100- 50 from water surface to mid tank to sand bed respectively. I don’t have a bio cube so I wouldn’t be able to confirm that. But either way. I’ve got a lot of chalices and they are pretty versatile. They don’t like the shade but I have them scattered out around 50-125 depending on where they’re at in the tank. Seems like they’ll grow fine in lower light but color up better in mid light. Also could depend on the genus of chalice. Some might do better than others in lower light. Do you know what kind of chalice it is by chance?

Could u try it out in your tank and give it back if it doesnt seem happy? Usally corals reacted worse to too much light compared to too little. I wouldnt focus on par it doesnt mean much from tank to tank.

Thanks for the responses. I'm unsure of the exact genus but plan to try it as Brandon suggested. I won't pick it up until after Christmas and we'll see how it goes.

Do itttttt I keep chalice at the bottom of my tank under an AI Prime which isn’t a crazy intense light at all. I have them at the same par as my zoas and my Miami Hurricane chalice is growing out of control. IME, corals get better color in the lower range of acceptable lighting for them. I put a Hurricane frag about 1’ higher in the tank and it’s growing faster than the one on the bottom but the colors are very pale. Since I’m not a coral farmer, I’m gonna move it back down so it can have the best colors

Yea you should be fine. I have a couple frags growing nicely in my frag tank under a small AquaKnight V2 which isn't putting out any crazy par numbers I'd imagine.

Time for an intervention..... we’ll need to take those from you....
No!!! It’s not a problem if I don’t admit that it is ;). Plus, only 3 are saltwater. But altogether I’ve got about 400 gallons of DT not including sumps so it’s not actually THAT much... There’s just so many pretty fishies!

What all display tanks do you currently have?
