Hello. I got a small green chalice with neon green eyes about 1 month ago from a local reefer tearing down his tank. He had the chalice on the sand bed in full light under a 6 bulb t-5 fixture. I have led's over my tank, so I put the chalice on the sand bed in a mostly shaded area. After about a week, I noticed the edges started getting a little brown, so I moved it out into the light. It has continued with the slight browning, so I put it on a rack about 3 inches off the sand bed. I was thinking that the browning meant it needed more light. It's been on the rack for about a week with no change. Should I move it higher, put it back in the shade, or what? BTW, my led's started as a Marineland double bright fixture, then the blues went out, so I added a couple of exotic strips, and also a couple of 10 watt multi chips. The fixture is kinda hodge-podge diy. Thanks for any advice.

Do you have s picture? Browning generally means it needs more light. But not sure if that is the case here. Chalices prefer lower light. It could be new growth coloring.

I do not have a picture, and lights aren't on enough to take a picture right now. I also thought that about the browning, that's why I moved it out and then up. I do not thing the lights are very high light, but I am growing several birdsnest and monti's higher up in the tank.

Too much lighting will kill a chalice before too little will. Since the browning is on the edges i thinking it may just be me growth and will change to body color as it ages. Does it look like it could be a rim of new growth. Chalices can change there coloring depending on lighting. It may be nothing.

There is the growth ring around the edge that is distinct, and it's brown. The chalice is about 1.5" in diameter, and about 1/4" or so around the edge is brown. There is like a hump in the center part that is still green. When I got the chalice it was all green. I woke up early this morning before any lights came on and looked with a flashlight at the tank, the chalice had it's tentacles out. Should I be feeding it?

I moved the chalice back into partial shade. To move it farther back, I'll have to cut off the post under the plug. Really hate those things.
