So having an issue with my Chalice... I was away for 4 days before i left everything looked good. Upon my return I noticed my large Chalice had the bottom of the skeleton exposed... I only have 2 clown fish in my 65g reef tank. I did a 10% water change and my water parameters are
8.4 PH
450 Calcium
10.4 alk
1280 Mag
No traceable nitrates andPhosphates...
1.026 salinity

My other 2 Chalice frags look to be okay and my other corals don't seem to be effected. I feed twice a week with coral frenzy at night. I spot feed everything.

here are some pics of effected Chalice. Any advice?
Sorry for the crappy pics.

Hmm if 2/3 are doing fine with no changes I would just wait and watch, maybe do a water change in a few days. At this point it will be hard to pinpoint the cause and unless you see further degradation, there is not much to do.

Thanks... I have a large population of amphipods(I think that is what they are). Only having the 2 clowns I don't have much that eat them.. Wasn't sure if they would be eating the Chalice or the clowns would be picking at it. Just add it would happen so quick. This is what it looked like before i left..

Sorry fat fingered that. 450 not 1450.. fixed original post.
Did you mean to put 1450 for CA? If 450, you're fine, but I'd say 1450 would make for some issues.

I was going to say to clean of water but you spot feed so that should be fine.

Any peppermint shrimps by any chance?

Any new additions that could have brought in a pest? Or strange algae - I saw recession like this right around a dinoflagellets outbreak.

I've had this happen to chalices before, for me waiting it out ended in their demise. I'd pull it and dip it in revive. If you suspect a pest could be a possibility then dip in bayers, rinse and then revive.

I love revive, it has stop unknown recession on acans, chalices and sps for me.

Good luck & I hope someone has a better idea of what's taking place.

I will have to run out and get some revive.. Never used it before. I may move it to a lower part of the tank that has a bit more shade. Only other thing I can think of is my lighting is crushing it. I don't have any crabs, or shrimp.. Just snails for CUC...
