Chalice loosing color

Alk is usually the first thing that causes chalices to do that if its a parm. Get a double check on it.

So my I'm somewhat worried for my chalice, and I thought this what is it but I'm not too sure. My chalice coral is in shade now with 20% white light on a current usa marine orbit light, I changed this because one of the corners was white, it wasn't the skeleton like this, just white flesh and now one of the mouths is getting white too. Is it going to end up like this? or will it recover color, it came grayish purple with orange mouths and spots.

Mine had definite tissue loss. Yours might just be changing color due to a lighting change. I hope it works out.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Mine was just having too much light, the pale part is getting it's color back.

Frag it and super glue the edges down, double check your mag (1400 +). Could well be a pathogen of some type as well (doxy MIGHT help).

Are you suggesting high (12 ish), low (7 ish) or swings?

Nothing left to frag. Was doing great for a couple months, new growth, new mouths, and then just decided to die. I am not a fan of adding stuff to fix stuff that i will have to add stuff to reverse later. I scraped the skeleton off the frag plug and will reuse it.

I personally have never had a chalice die for no reason. They do not "decide" to die. I've always narrowed it to either lighting, flow, or water parameters. My first chalice I killed by letting alk get too low, then doing a large water change. They don't typically just die for no reason. They're great indicators of water parameter swings (usually losing flesh is this indicator).

Do you have an ATO? Do you dose? How often do you check Alk, Cal, and Mg?

Shoot...I'd wager keeping a multitude of chalices is more difficult than a lot of SPS like birdsnest, montis, and some hardier acros. I've never done it because I know for a fact my "chalice-worthy" locations are slim and next to none. I currently have 2. One on each end of the tank on the outer rim of my lighting.

I usually notice it when my alk gets low the chalices will not like it. But all the above.

Ya mine really don't like anything under 8 - 10 seems to be a good number and swings are death.

Bump to an older thread here. My chalice is doing exactly this. I realized my temps range from about 77F to 80F over the course of 24 hours. Is this temp swing enough that will injure corals? I suppose my tank will be more stable in temp during winter when the heaters need to be on to keep it where I set it.

That temp range doesn’t seem like an issue. What are your other parameters?

Alk 7.7-7.9 (hanna checker) I had a dip to 6.6 when I went on vacation 2 weeks ago, the drop from the usual range was gradually over that 1 week. It's been stable at usual numbers since I came back.
Ca 420-430
NO3 12-25 (nyos)
PO4 0.05 (hanna checker)
Mg 1300s (salifert)
pH ??
Lights: Atlantik V4 + OR3 blue plus LED bar. 12 hour photoperiod, 5 hours max intensity. 8 hours total where it's at 85%. Chalice sits on the BB glass in the front.

Parameters look good if they are stable. Could be too much lighting if it’s bleaching. Any pics?

I would try a shadier spot. How long have you had it there?
