what do you guy think has green rim that comes and goes with growth

Don't think it is a pectina. However pectinia is considered a chalice. It does look like a traditional chalice but which family could be hard to determine. The rind in many chalices only appears on new growth.

I'm going to go with chalice, but it may not have formed the peaks yet either.

True my space invader has just started to form spikes. It is about the diameter of a quarter and about 10 months old. Spiky pectinia are very slow growers. Not all pectinia spike. They are called plating pectinia. They very much like a regular chalice. But all ones i have seen have slight horizontal spike edges along new growth. More evident when not puffed out.

Yeah I believe I have one also, kinda look like little mountain ridges instead of spikes

I get confused with the different types of pictinia. here is mine.

That is a spiny pectina. The plating has growth like a regular chalice. From what i have noticed the plating when not puffed has slight spikes that are horizontal, not vertical. Along new growth edge. Chalices are generally have smooth edges. My space invader also has the horizontal spikes and will get the vertical ones with age. Chalice edges are like a quarter, slight ridged. A pectinia would be like a table saw blade.
