Hi. I have a great big Hollywood stunner that's been in the tank for three or four years. Yesterday it started losing tissue. Here's yesterday:

Now, about 24 hours later, about half is gone. Here's now:

Is this stoppable? If not, would there be any point in fragging what's left?

Here's a closeup of the brown stuff. It's wavy in the current. Looks like brown algae or maybe it's rotting tissue:

The back story, if you want to hear it, is that the tank has been running pretty well for a long time without much intervention. I had got a little lazy with the husbandry due to work and family obligations but things seemed OK for a long time, until a big birdsnest bleached out. So I checked the levels and some things weren't where they needed to be, so I made adjustments and added what I needed to over a week or two and levels were looking good. Then I lost a wrasse, a huge leather started to die, and this big old Kenya tree died (good riddance Kenya tree) and some of the softies and some of the LPS started to look pretty bad. So this past weekend I did a 25% water change. And yesterday my chalice started to go to pot.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I feel like I'm always asking for help but never contributing. I need to change that.

Frag off bad tissue, not sure whats happening ,but looks like bacterial infection.

siphon off "rotting" flesh then cut/break off ,if cannot remove from tank.

Thanks for the replies. I cleaned out the dead tissue, fragged the live sections, and pulled out the rest. Sucks, tho - the thing was more than a foot across. I guess on the bright side I now have lots of room for new stuff.

Crossed fingers that the frags survive...

I have one a foot round wish I could sell you. How close to Chicago are you ? 50$

thing grows like a weed, few months you'll have frags ,foot across... ;)

It is my fastest growing coral, and that's with me including xenia, gsp, and Kenya tree. Ok it may not be quicker than the kenya tree, but it's definitely my fastest growing stony coral.
