Chalice Show-Off Thread!!!

Nice coral Chris, personally I don't think that ETERNITY is all that spectacular. Seeing people on eBay throwing their money away
just makes me laugh :xd:, that 20K lighting setup really makes the
coral pop, and the name "tyree" makes people goes nut...LOL

Being the economy is slow Tyree is naming everything LE

I have to disagree with that statement. I know I may be accused of being biased since I have a few things named LE/AE, but there are certain criteria that Tyree looks at before it's even considered for LE/AE status. I talk to him on a regular basis since he is local to me. Some of those criteria automatically eliminates some corals from consideration. However, you have to realize that a lot of people send him pictures and information that he really has no way of verifying. What Tyree is trying to do (promoting captive raised corals) and what some people are using his name for (profit) shouldn't be confused as one and the same.

Soapbox has been returned to storage.

Sad Sad Sad once again ..

If hes just promoting captive raised coral how come they cost soo dang much, seems like hes in it for profit to me? I know i can grow just about any coral put in my tank and when it went in if it cost 30 dollars thats the MAX that would get charged for a frag. If it werent for profit and it was to advance the hobby why wont he share the specifics of his system?

There was a good article on his sponge filtration system utilizing a cryptic zone and pictures of it in coral magazine over the past summer.

I have to agree with this statement. We always hear that Steve chooses corals that have done well in captivity and maintain their colors. The last few corals that are LE/AE goes against that idea. For example, the Superman and NY Superman are the same coral collected and so are the many others out there that looks exactly the same. Those are all recently collected. A perfect example of Steve jumping the gun once in the past were the 2 micromussa he made LE/AE a few years back. Those 2 micros never held their colors and soon after that, they were "retired" from the list.

The Eternity is a nice looking chalice and could well be a LE/AE, but not right now since we are seeing tons of chalice coming in. I can see that coral coloring up more and being a TRUE LE like the pink watermelon, re watermelon, Bazooka Joe and bubble gum monster chalice. The pastel watermelon is also something different and very nice and could easily fall into that list.

May I suggest that lets not make this chalice thread an discussion thread?.. This is a chalice show off and not a discussion.. Feel free to start up another thread :).... I think we dont have enough of that thread lol

Kevin, perhaps you may have misunderstood my comment. ReefFarmers is Tyree's business and as far as I know, that's how he makes his living. I've been to several of his trade shows and he does NOT sell his corals at those inflated prices. There's a lot more that goes into how the frags are priced than I care to talk about.

As for the comment about "jumping the gun", perhaps part of the blame should go to the owners of those corals? Unfortunately, not everyone is truthful about the origins, length in captivity, and other necessary info when they submit these corals to be evaluated.

Sorry Pnoy. I swear this will be my last comment on this topic.
